English Language Challenges

Imagen
In my case, before entering university, I had  very basic notions of English, in other words, I knew some verbs and how to apply them thanks to some movies or some songs. The truth I had to learn English in my school days was quite deficient and boring. This is why attend more "serious" English courses at the university meant a big change for me. For example, the use of blogs has helped me a lot. S ince, write my own ideas motivates me more than do other types of activities in English (like read a text that does not interest me). I think write blogs it's a good technique to learn the language (althought i do not have the ability to write blogs very well). Because write a text makes you think and "forces" you to look for the right words or connectors to express an idea clearly in English, Spanish or any other language.

Changes to my Study Programme

Personally, I think the current study programme of the FAU has several flaws that must be changed urgently, such as infrastructure, teaching methods, dignity of work and working equipment.

Feminism movement

Imagen
First of all, i want to make clear what it means feminism. Many people think that this movement is the opposite of male chauvinism and this is wrong.  Feminism is a intellectual and a political movement that seeks justice for women and the end of sexism and violence in all forms. In my opinion, feminism is a necessary movement to achieving a more equal and fair society. Because, for years women have suffered the lack of rights, respect and valorization in society. A current example of these situations is “La Manada” a sexual assault case in Spain (2016) where an eighteen years old woman was raped by five men and today all these men enjoy freedom! Or Nabila Rifo case in Chile (2016), a woman whose ex took out his eyes for jealousy attack! And these are only two cases of the thousands that have occurred and continue occuring throughout history.  What kind of society allows this kind of things?, What kind of people have normalized these crimes to the point of making them uss...

If You Could Be Someone Else for a Day, Who Would It Be?

Imagen
I would not like to be someone else, i like who i am.  In saying this I am by no means implying that I think I am perfect or something like this. I am just saying every person is the product of a history and that's admirable because we are in this world thanks to our efforts and aspirations in front of our stories, therefore, we have to appreciate who we are. On the other hand, I am aware that many stories can be more unfair than others and this could make us think that we want to be someone else. But we must not intertwine the woman/man and her/ his context at the moment of craving a more fair story. We can be outraged by the living conditions of some people or their own and, justifiably, fight or demand something better and continue being oneself. Because the conviction and reasoning that allows us to see inequality and demand dignity we owe it to who we are, to our own values, to our human quality and that is not bought, it is not destroyed, on the contrary, the way of we a...

Postgraduate studies

Imagen
At the present time I have not though about my future in depth, but I know I would like to continue studying after getting my degree as an architect. As I said before, I am not quite certain what kind of postgraduate course I would like to do. Though I think my future postgraduate degree would be related to housing and public space because I want to make a positive contribution to society.   I believe one of the most important aspects of contributing to society is improving people’s life quality. People’s life quality is directly connected with their environment in which they do their everyday lives. On the other hand, I would like study my postgraduate in other country like Germany, Australia, China or Brazil because I am very interested in learning about a different culture and way of life. Housing and public space are not simple and unique. These topics change according with who inhabit the space, the type of interrelationships that occur, the quality of spaces and constru...

my future job

Imagen
I would like to work in an architecture office or somewhere that gives me the freedom to design. But, ideally, my work must combine two things that I'm  re ally  passionate  abou t , architecture design and travel. My life plan contemplates contributing in some of the causes that I consider fair, that is to say,   improve the quality of life of those who abit this planet, therefore my future job should be related whit that and architecture or urbanism.   I want to create or contribute in sustainable designs around the world because most of the current buildings do not have the necessary technology or design to be considered sustainable, in other words, the contemporary constructions pollute  the  en vironment instead of combating preexisting pollution. Currently, I’m in a subject called “urban sustainability” and I've learned a lot about pollution and the environment and the importance that they have.  I am very interested in the subject of ...

What's Santiago like?

Imagen
I always lived in Santiago therefore i think to know how the city works.   In my opinion, Santiago is a poorly organized city because we have a serious connection problem.   That is, people who lives in the city can´t move correctly with the current conditions of means of transport, for the poor quality of the machines (buses and subway) and the bad distribution of the roads. For example, someone who lives in Colina has a difficult access to public transport, buses and subway don’t exist in this place. in parallel, someone who lives in Puente alto (far from main street) must wait for a bus more than 20 minutes and it is probably broken, collapsed or without the minimum security means , adding the bad treatment of the stressed drivers and mad users. The non-main streets are usually left aside in the urban planning and many times we can see some broken or little spacious. The worst in this situation is t he difference between the communes, the communal limits are like barrie...
